Once again, we reached out to some of the best wedding photographers – this time from Sofia – and asked them the question:
“What would you advise future newlyweds so their wedding photo session is perfect?” All their tips are collected in this article, together with a favorite wedding photo from each photographer. The order follows the sequence in which we received their answers.
Be in a Good Mood – Be Real, Happy and Relaxed
In my opinion, the most important thing is for the couple to be in a good mood – natural, happy and relaxed.
With Photoshop we can fix a lot: adjust colors, correct exposure, remove small imperfections, even change the composition… but there is no software that can turn tense, stressed people into happy, smiling ones in a photo.
So ignore everything that worries, stresses or distracts you – even the camera. Relax and have fun without caring how you’ll look in the photos. Don’t pose. Just be yourselves. Be happy, natural and enjoy your day.
Give Each Other Time and Space
The photo session is the time when you can truly focus on one another. Make sure you have enough time, space and the right conditions to show tenderness and emotions without feeling watched or rushed.
You should trust your photographer and like them not only as a professional, but also as a person. The fewer spectators there are, the easier it is to show real closeness and emotion.
A central city garden may be beautiful, but if your session is on a weekend afternoon, it will probably be full of people – and you don’t want to be the center of attention.
Don’t invite friends, relatives or helpers to the creative session. Plan separate time for formal family portraits after the ceremony. If you want photos with bridesmaids and best men, do them at the beginning of the session – then let them go have a drink somewhere else, not around you 🙂
Nothing sabotages a session more successfully than a group of well-meaning relatives giving “valuable” advice about where to kiss the bride and from where the photographer should shoot 😄
Consider a Separate Day for Epic Locations
If you dream of photos in the mountains, a lavender field or on the beach, it’s a great idea to plan a separate photo session day.
Not only are these locations often far from wedding venues, but to use them properly we need the right light – usually about an hour before sunset, which is very hard to fit into a wedding day schedule.
